Atlanto-Scandian Herring Negotiations set to Continue into the New Year

The five coastal parties to the Atlanto-Scandian herring, the Faroes, Iceland, Norway, Russia and the EU, met in London today for consultations on the allocation key for 2014. Regrettably, it was not possible to reach a mutually satisfactory agreement on the allocation, and the parties have therefore agreed to resume the negotiations in January 2014.

Encouraged by the positive spirit of the negotiations, the Faroes will use the coming weeks to engage in bilateral consultations, in an attempt to bring the parties closer together. It is hoped that this will result in the conclusion of a five party agreement for 2014, which is acceptable to all parties.
